"Edison, the owner/operator of Biking Spirit was very accommodating as we requested a tour with only 2 days notice. He personally guided our bike tour as most guides were gone for the Carnaval holiday. We had door to door service as he picked us up from and dropped us back off at our hotel in Riobamba. Edison and Yoel were gracious, attentive, funny, and informative. They offered great information on the history, landscape, and the people of the area. They made sure we were well taken care of throughout the day. The intermediate mountain biking trails we rode on were a little daunting for a few of us inexperienced mountain bikers at first, but ultimately amazing and worth it. The hike from base camp 1 to base camp 2 was absolutely breathtaking. Drinking some *tea before the climb up definitely helped with altitude adjustment. All in all, an excellent experience! I highly recommend this to anyone interested in mountain biking and seeing all the beauty in and around Chimborazo."

Excellent hiking/biking adventure”
On our way from Quito to Cuenca, we decided to stop in Riobamba in hopes of seeing and hiking Chimborazo. We had read some other reviews of Biking Spirit and decided this might be the best way to to see the volcano. We contacted Edison (owner/guide) by email, outlining our thoughts for a day trip. The experience from this point on was very special. Not only did Edison meet us at our hotel to confirm activities the day before but he was on time the next morning for our expedition. We drove to 4800 m then hiked to 5050 to see the lagoon. Returned to parking lot and then biked down dirt roads, single track and pavement for about 31 km. What a great day. I can not say enough good things about the whole experience and especially our guide. If you are in the area, this is truly a great way to spend a day or more.

"Hola Edison,

"The mountain biking tour we did with Edison turned out to be a great adventure. We drove to the first refuge on Chimborazo by car. After a hike to the laguna, we started our mountain biking trip by descending this snow covered mountain. On our way down the scenery and tracks changed all the time. At the end of the (more or less) 35 km descend we were surrounded by beautiful country side were we had a nice lunch/picknick. Edison is a friendly and profesional guide. He was constantly checking if we were doing fine. The bikes and gear we got to use were in good condition. If you know how to handle a bike, we definitely recommend this tour."

"We called Edison super last minute the night we showed up in riobamba. He came straight over to our hostel an explained the options and set us up with a tour the next day. He was well versed in explaining the area, and speaks good English. The drive alone is worth the price. Spectacular mountain views and then a short but very scenic hike to 5100m below the peak of Chimborazo. We were amazingly lucky and the clouds parted enough to see the spectacular glaciated summit several times throughout the day.
Coca tea at the refugio was nice, and then we started down. Dress warm since there is fog, wind, and low temperatures. As you wind down through the grasslands there are wild vicuña ( a llama relative) grazing beneath the towering volcano and it is very beautiful. Good variety of dirt road, minor single track, and some paved sections. The mountain biker in me wishes that a few hours of trail work had been done on the side of the highway to create a trail to give the option of staying on dirt rather than riding pavement for the token paved sections (1-2 km or so. ) Hard to complain though about coasting effortlessly down a scenic, very quiet highway though.

The lower parts of the trail are old dirt roads and tracks that wind through paramo(grassland) with a nice lunch stop and the a scenic, super mellow cruise downhill past grazing sheep and cows and idyllic countryside views. A cool way to see the rural/ indigenous lifestyle as well.

Overall great tour and Edison is a super great friendly and helpful guy. Don't miss this!"

We got in touch with Biking Spirit roughly a month before our trip to Ecuador. After all the googling and reviews on things to do in Ecuador, we thought we would like to go for a multiple day trip cycling.
With Biking Spirit we did the following journey:

Riobamba - Chimborazo downhill cycling (35km)

Attilio lakes to Macas (50km ++)

Macas to Rio Pastaza river (50km ++)

Can't really remember the total distances but it was great cycling!

The beauty of the journey was that we started off with the highest volcano, then the scenery of the Amazon basin, then the constant pedal power of the last day.

Biking Spirit customized our trip to what we wanted.

We also visited Banos and the famous waterfall on our last day.

Simply amazing! Thank you Edison.

We would highly recommend them!

“My favourite bike tour ever!!!!”
Edison took my husband and I on the 32 km bike ride down Chimborazo. It was amazing!!! He arrived on time, spoke excellent English and was so attentive and a perfect guide. He had all the equipment available if we needed it such as balaclavas, gloves, helmets, knee pads etc. the bikes were brand new and of very good quality. He follows you down the mountain in case there are any problems and guides you all the way. At the end he brought out a beautiful picnic lunch that we enjoyed at one of his friends house with excellent views of the mountain. A day we will never forget. Highly recommended!!!

"Esperienza fantastica, scendere in bici dai mt. 6000 del Chimborazo a Riobamba, per i sentieri alternativi è stata veramente un esperienza fantastica. Ottima la guida e la messa a disposizione della bici e di tutte le attrezzature di Edison Baldeón, un vero amico, preparato, disponibile e competente, che ama e vive il ciclismo!"

"Great guide, great day!
My wife and I had a wonderful outing with Edison! He is very sincere and is passionate about cycling and sharing his home country of Ecuador with others. Edison met with us the day before to organize a ride that would be more cultural in nature, with stops in some of the local indigenous communities. He picked us up promptly at our hostel the next day and we began our tour just outside Riobamba. The market in Cajabamba was a real highlight, and the most authentic we`ve seen in Ecuador. We enjoyed it all and highly recommend Edison and Biking Spirit!"
